a story about grit & perseverence
In the first grade, I was caught red handed...reading under my desk during math time. I can’t help myself when it comes to a good story and the chance to immerse myself into the world of make believe.
The signs were there: it was soon revealed that I was left handed. And, math was (and still is) a bore to me. Could I perhaps be…a right brained creative?
In the weeks after, the school principal presented me with a “reader of the year” award. Turns out, when you nurture a kids strengths…they really thrive.
In my 6 year old little world, I also developed a childhood stutter.
I would soon come to find that after being the target of childhood bullying, I would find ways to express myself that was different than the other kids.
While speech therapy helped me heal the stutter, reading and writing became a means for creative self expression.
curiosity is a core value
THE ABILITY TO DESIGN IS TO DREAM A VISION INTO REALITY. IN DOING SO, THIS REQUIRES THE HEART OF A WANDERER…
✓ In college, back in the early 00's, I wrote copy and designed a flyer for a party. It was so persuasive that my tiny 700-square ft apartment was packed shoulder to shoulder like a can of sardines, with a line out the door.
✓ I have a background in entrepreneurship, copywriting, graphic design, social media content creation, and video editing. I can look at things from an artistic lens AND a sales lens. Ultimately when writing and designing, I ask myself - does this convert to sales and/or does this build relationships?
✓ Part of my process with writing + design is finding a flow state. I remove the pressure of perfection and instead, get a first rough draft out of my brain and onto the page. From there, it’s all about refinement to chisel a finished product.
